RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is used in many automation, machinery, automotive and logistics applications today. It provides the identification of the objects by means of transponders. These objects can be manufactured products as well as containers, pallets, various parts of the machine or vehicle skids used in automotive. As WAGO, we handle RFID projects as a whole with our existing PLC and Interface solutions and offer the most optimal systems to your use. It is obvious that RFID solutions, which is a comprehensive system, should be handled as a whole with an engineering work that cannot be achieved by supplying components and that a turnkey installation should be established.

Each of the labels has their own unique ID number and a memory space that can be read and written. With the read / write heads, the data defining the object from the memory area, the data for the process can be read or the processes applied to the material during the manufacturing phase can be written and recorded. These data can be carried safely together with the object, allowing it to be read again or modified on the desired station.

It provides serious advantages over conventional labeling systems, barcode and laser marking. RFID tags, which are not affected by dirt, dust, continue to work unaffected even if they are covered. On the other hand, the barcode should maintain its integrity without being dirty and should be positioned directly and at a certain angle in front of the reader, RFID does not have such a restriction. The main and front major difference of RFID is that the data is not only read but can be changed and overwritten.

Contrinex LF (Low Frequency) RFID technology offers standard components as well as complete stainless steel body read / write heads and labels. These components ensure that pressure washings, abrasive chemicals, applications in the harshest industrial conditions with moisture and steam, and applications with mechanical shocks, vibrations and shocks come to life.

Contrinex HF (High Frequency) RFID technology (13.56 MHz) contains read / write heads and tags that meet ISO / IEC 15693 requirements. As per this protocol, all Contrinex RFID tags can be read by all heads in this standard, and Contrinex RFID heads can read all tags in this standard. Different manufacturers produce non-standard labels and cause problems that may cause trouble for the availability of forward-looking products.

RFID systems consist of the following basic components:

  • Tag

    It is an integrated circuit containing an antenna. There are many different sizes and sizes of different materials.
  • Read / Write Head

    It includes M18 and M30 bodies, which are also available in all stainless steel options.
  • Interface Device

    It provides communication between multiple read / write heads and control system. Bus structures such as RS485, Profibus, DeviceNet, Ethernet / IP… are available.
  • Software

    Provides configuration and testing. It contains the library and function blocks to be integrated into the PLC program.

Generally, it is possible for the RFID systems / solutions added to the existing systems to work properly and to give the desired results as a result of detailed studies. It is of great importance to select and implement the right labels and read heads according to the needs of the application, and to integrate the system with the appropriate bus structure and software into the existing system.
